Abstract
"GÜL" AND HER COMBINATIONS AS PERSONAL NAME IN NEW TURKISH
Personal names is a separate area in the onomastics studies. Different angle of personal names have been examined in Turkish. Words, which are Turkish or are received from west and east languages, which are interacted with Turkish, have been used as personal names. One of those words is "gül", which has been received from Persian. The issue of this study is "gül", which is used as a personal name and personal names, which are formed from the word "gül". Firstly the structural characteristics of those names were examined in this study. 296 of 305 names, which are materials of this study, are compound nouns. It has been found that compound nouns related to "gül" are composed from Turkish and Persian syntactic structurals. Secondly, these compound nouns were evaluated, basing on their co-occurrence characteristics. In terms of co-occurence, it has been found that "gül" forms compound nouns with words from different conceptual fields. Thirdly, names related to "gül" given to people were interpreted by their gender. It has been identified, that in the context of in Turkish naming tradition personal names related to "gül" are given at most to women.
