Abstract
IDIOMS FORMED WITH THE WORD ‘YÜZ’ (FACE) IN KUTADGU BİLİG, NEHCÜ’L-FERÂDİS AND KISASÜ’L-ENBİYÂ
Unlike proverbs, idioms, which are smaller structures and do not aim to convey an experience like proverbs, are anonymous words that can be called molds that reflect the expressive power of a language, the possibilities of expression and the way of life of the society, and serve to describe a situation that can be explained at length in a minimum of words. From time to time, there have been disagreements about what idioms are, which have attracted the attention of researchers and have been studied extensively from the past, and sometimes idioms have been confused with mold words and proverbs. It is seen that the names of organs (hand, foot, face, tongue, heart, etc.) and objects to which Turks attribute holiness (tree, water, soil, etc.) were used a lot while creating idioms. Among these, the face has been the subject of idioms frequently because of its ability to reflect emotions and to be used as a communication tool in itself. In this article, without entering into discussions about what idiom is and what it is not, we will try to give idioms formed with the word 'face', compiled from certain texts such as Kutadgu Bilig, Nehcü'l-Feradis, and Kısasü'l-Enbiya, and, if any, the reflections of these in Turkey Turkish will be discussed.
