Abstract

AGRIG, İG, KEGEN, KEM, TİKİG, TOGA IN OLD UIGHUR TURKIC LANGUAGE “ILLNESS, PAIN AND ACHE” Greed is the most severe of diseases
A large number of terms that mean illness, pain and ache were interchangeably practised in the Old Turkic language. The Uighur Turkic language particularly uses terms of disease, pain and ache abundantly. In most cases, the differences between these terms which mean disease are conspicuous and are frequently witnessed in collocations, mostly as reduplications or all together to provide the same. Most studies on medical terms have been carried out and still pursued in both Old Turkish and other historical periods of Turkish language. This study concerns the terms agrıg, ig, kegen, kem, tikig, toga which generally mean “sickness” and “pain”, not terms referring diseases or limbs in Old Uighur Turkic and some determinations and attention will be presented about the use of these terms in the texts of the period.
