Abstract

THE EFFECT OF DİALECT FEATURES ON WRITING SKILLS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN KELKIT REGION
Turkish course basically includes listening/watching, speaking, reading and writing language skills. One of the specific aims of the Turkish course is to enable students to use Turkish consciously, correctly and carefully in accordance with the rules of speaking and writing. In the Turkish education process, it is aimed that the students comprehend the spelling rules while acquiring their writing skills and acquire the habit of adopting and applying these rules. The basic skill areas of the language are in a systematic whole and affect each other. Speaking skills and habits are highly influential on students' writing education processes. In particular, local dialect usages have a direct effect on writing skills. It is seen that students living in a language environment based on local dialect elements, especially in out-of-town settlements, make spelling mistakes based on the effect of dialect features while applying the spelling rules. In our study, the sentences obtained from the students and analyzed were handled without changing them as they were written, and it was seen that some of the spelling mistakes they made were caused by the local dialect usage that shapes the daily spoken language. Spelling errors caused by students' local dialect usage were examined by classifying them according to language characteristics. Spelling errors caused by different reasons were not included in the scope of the study in order not to deviate from the purpose of the study. The findings made as a result of the examination are also included in the conclusion part of the study. Planning and implementation of language skills studies by taking into account the effect of local dialect elements will contribute to a more qualified execution of Turkish education processes in reaching the specific objectives of the course.
