Abstract
KAZAKH LINGUIST KUDAYBERGEN DZUBANOV AND PHONEME THEORY: HIS LIFE, STUDIES, FINDINGS AND THESES
The subject of this article is Kudaybergen Dzubanov (1899-1937), who left his mark on Kazakh linguistics with his work on language and education in the 1920s and 1930s. The focus of the article is on Dzubanov's work in the field of phonetics and phonology. Dzubanov put the linguistics laid by Ahmet Baytursunoglu on a solid foundation. He did not only work on language, but as a theorist and educator, he also produced many works in the fields of literature, education, art and culture. When the scientist was accused of being an enemy of the people and executed by the Soviet government in 1937, the Kazakh people and Kazakh linguistics lost a great value. According to Kazakh researchers, a significant part of his unfinished works have been lost or destroyed. When Dzubanov was acquitted in 1957, his works resurfaced and were reprinted.
In the introduction of the article, the formation of Kazakh linguistics was outlined in order to fully understand the conditions that gave birth and upbringing to Dzubanov. Then, in order to show how his scientific understanding was formed, information about his biography and scientific-public activities was given. Another reason for summarizing Dzubanov's life is to make him more known in Turkey. In the review section of the article, Dzubanov's determinations and evaluations on the sound system (phonetics-phonology) of Kazakh Turkish were emphasized. In the conclusion section, the findings obtained as a result of the study were briefly mentioned.
