Abstract

TURKISH PERSONAL NAMES IN THE ARCHIVE DOCUMENTS OF SHEIKH SAFI’S TOMB
Archive documents of Ardabil Shrine are the richest corpus of documents on the history of Azerbaijan, especially Ardabil. In our days these documents are scattered to different institutions of Iran. But Iranian scholar E. Seikh al-Hokamayi in the result of his investigations prepared and published an annotated catalog of these documents. Studying this catalog we tried to identify Turkish names which were used in Ardabil and surrounding areas. In this study we encountered 176 times to Turkish names in 865 documents and found 114 pure Turkish names. 92 of them are male names and 21 of them are female names. One of the names used both for men and women. We believe that these findings will contribute to Azerbaijani onomastic and researches on historical evolution of Turkish names.
