Abstract
DEFERENCE VERBS AS DESCRIPTIVE VERBS IN OLD UIGHUR TURKISH
Descriptive verbs are the auxiliary verbs that are added to the converbs, and complement the verbs in various ways. These auxiliary verbs affect the meaning of the main verb by quitting their own meanings. Descriptive verbs mark the main verb in various ways. In the studies about descriptive verbs, it is generally mentioned that these type of verbs complement the main verb in these meanings: quickness, ability, approximation, duration etc. However, descriptive verbs can also complement the verbs in various meanings except for these four meaning. In Old Uighur Turkish, there are also deference verbs as descriptive verbs which are often used in Altun Yaruk. Altun Yaruk is a text in Old Uighur Turkish, that tells about the Buddhism. Because of the fact that there are a lot of sayings of Buddha in this text, there are also these deference verbs to describe the main verb in deferential way. In this study, it is explained that why these verbs are descriptive verbs, and how they describe the main verb as a deferential verb.
