Abstract
THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE CIVILISATION CONCEPT DURING THE HISTORICAL PROCESS FROM WESTERN TO OTTOMAN
Concepts are reinterpreted and changed according to the social and historical conditions, and they have transformed with new meanings. Civilisation is one of this concepts that has transformed during the historical process. We can see the conceptual survey of civilisation in the western work from the 17th century and in the ottoman works from the 19th century. This study, which examines the transformation of the term civilisation from the etymological point, show also the perception of civilisation from western and ottoman thinkers.
