Abstract


JUMPING FROM WOOD STICK AS AN OATH ON THE TURKISH FOLK LAW: KONYA (MERAM/YATAĞAN) INSTANCE
There are many factors that enable human beings to meet in common life. The most important of these factors are the rules that govern society. These rules, which regulate the social life and ensure that people live in peace and security, are confronted in two ways as written (constitution, law, regulation) and verbal (morals, custom, manners etc.). From the experience and accumulation of centuries, it has been floated and transferred from today; morals, customs, manners, traditions, observance, etc. constitute one of the sources of modern law. In the historical process ranging from the past to the present day, the oath phenomenon that continues its existence in people's lives can be evaluated in oral law rules. Since the beginning of creation, humanbeing has felt a lack of confidence in his soul, he has made efforts to complete this poverty, and as a result, oath ritual was born. An anticipated act of sacred activity, a mythic experience, has a great place in the lives of the people as well as in the lives of the societies. In this article, after briefly informing about the historical and cultural reflections of the oath phenomenon, which is an important place in Turkish culture, the ritual of the jump from the wood stick applied until recently in the Yatağan village of the Meram district of Konya will be emphasized.
