Abstract


FIRE IN POETRY (A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE ODES WITH THE SAME REPEATED VOICE OF SHEIK GALIB AND SHEIK MUHAMMED ES’AD ERBILÎ)
Our literature is purely based on love. Love is a divine virtue and regarded as honorable both metaphorically and genuinely. The most common characteristic of love is that it burns people out, makes them divine by removing human qualities. In this sense, “fire” is the most used image and metaphor both in our old and new literature. Sheik Galib who is considered to be the last great Ottoman poet used this metaphor intensely in his poems about love. An important mystic poet Sheik Muhammed Es’ad Erbilî wrote a parallel poem for Sheik Galib’s ode with the repeated voice “fire”. In our study, we aim to compare these two poets and their poems, and we also aim to reveal the content integrity and the essence of the poems. Considering the Sufi customs, it is seen that kindness, respect and symbols are significant. The poems of Sheik Es’ad Erbilî who can be regarded as a part of the New Turkish Poetry and as a part of Classical Turkish poetry considering the themes and forms he used and Sheik Galib who is one of the most important representatives of Ottoman poetry can be evaluated in this context. When the odes are examined from this perspective, it can be speculated that Naqxi and Kadiri mentor Sheik Muhammed Es’ad Erbilî wrote his poem with the repeated voice “fire” out of respect for Mevlevi Sheik Galib Dede. Considering the usage of the repeated voice “fire” by both poets, it can be said that they regarded poetry as a means to an end. The word “fire” in the poems and other words reminding us of fire are used for the poet’s thoughts of Sufism. Another important point is the frequency of usage of the term “fire” by the poets. This word is used on nearly every page by Sheik Galib compared to Sheik Es’ad Erbilî, and Sheik Es’ad Erbilî uses the word continuously and consecutively.
