Abstract

WOMEN’S IMAGE, LANGUAGE AND SEXISM IN THE NOVELS OF EARLY REPUBLICAN PERIOD
The Early Republican period is a time when women have experienced significant changes in their gender roles and social positions. Women have gained public visibility and assumed roles and obligations outside of traditional roles, especially as a consequence of the perspective of the women's movement, which was strengthened during the Second Constitutional Period and the new regime as the last step of Westernization. This being the case, it is a very different view that reigns in literature which could be seen as a reflection of collective consciousness. There is a strong resistance to the changing roles of women in society that appears as threat and alignment, and finally ridicule and mockery. The aim of this article is to put the female image of early Republican novels at the center of language and gender relations. In this context, gender-related positionings were determined in the novels and the use of sexist language was revealed. The study shows that almost all authors are more or less influenced by sexism that comes adjacent to culture and language regardless of their gender or ideology but it is expressed in different forms depending on these variables.
