Abstract


THE FIGURAL AND FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATIONS OF CENTRAL ANATOLIA SHALVAR
In this study, the cultural and functional characteristics of traditional female shalvars used in the Central Anatolian Region were examined. Women in the region have been planned and carried out in order to determine the effects of these characteristics in their preference to use baggy trousers. In the study, 592 women randomly selected from 14 provinces, districts and villages in the Central Anatolia Region received their views on the subject. The data obtained were analyzed using the Social Science Statistical Package (SPSS). According to demographical specifications, the relationship between usage of shalvar and sociological and functional specifications are analyzed by applying Chi-Square Test and this data are analyzed as an order of p<0,005. According to the results of the research; It has been determined that traditional female shalvars in Central Anatolia Region have functional features in terms of protection, physical comfort, freedom of movement, adjustability to different dimensions, warm / cool retention and psychological comfort. It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the usage rate of shalvar in young age groups and the demographic characteristics and the use of shalvar as the level of education increased. It has been observed that in Central Anatolia women live in rural area prefer to wear shalvar with respect to urban area due to working comfort. Moreover usage of shalvar also depends on age, education, and demographic specifications according to the statistics. It has been determined that women are not influenced by the circus in their use of shalvar, they use their own will and shalwar. It has been determined that the functional properties of the shalvar are effective in this preference and that they use shalvar in a large part of their lives in order to keep tradition and culture alive.
