Abstract

SLANG, OLD LANGUAGE, PUBLIC LANGUAGE, CUSS WORDS, RUDE SPEECH AND OFFERLESS SPEECH IN HASAN KAYIHAN'S NOVEL “UYANMAK”
This article studies a vocabulary that includes the words "slang", "old language", "public language", "cuss words", "rude speech" and "offerless speech" in the novel of one of the recent Turkish writers Hasan Kayıhan's “Uyanmak”. With the help of these special words, it is aimed to contribute to the determination of the author's style in this novel. During the study, the words that were thought to fall into these six categories were determined in the novel, and then it was checked whether they entered these categories. In this study were used well-known resources in this field, including well-known Turkish dictionaries as the Dictionary of Turkish Language Institute field and other resources related to these categories. At the end of the study, it was observed that the author used such words intensely in this novel and that they were listed as “public language”, “old language”, “slang”, “rude speech”, “cuss words” and “offerless speech” in the order of their frequency. A total of 322 words in these six categories were identified in the work. The fact that such words are so many in the work shows that the writer aims to write a more realistic novel by reflecting their vocabulary to his work, not just to deal with ordinary people.
