TURKISH COMMENTS WRITTEN ON THE MUAMMÂ RISÂLE OF MİR HÜSEYİN NİŞÂBÛRÎ: TWO UNKNOWN COMMENTS
Abstract
Mir Hüseyin Muammâyî is an important enigmatic poet who lived in Nishapur, Iran in the 15th century. Mir Hüseyin, who was close friends with Ali Şir Nevâyî and Molla Câmî, is considered one of the pioneers of this field with his treatises on telling and solving the enigma. In Mir Huseyin's treatises called Risâle der-Esmâ-i Hüsnâ and Risâle-i Muammâ, matters such as enigma arrangement, solution ways and examples of enigmas were explained in depth and these works influenced the development and spread of the enigma both in Iranian literature and Turkish literature. The enigmatic treatises of Mir Huseyin were very popular in Turkish literature and many commentaries were written on these works. The most famous of these is the work Şerh-i Muammeyat-ı Mir Hüseyin by Gelibolulu Mustafa Süruri and Şerh-i Muammeyât-ı Lâmiî Çelebi Ala Esmâ-i Hüsnâ by Lamiî Çelebi. In addition to these, commentaries were written in Mir Huseyin's treatises by some authors and their enigmas were resolved. In our study, firstly, information was given about the concepts of annotation and enigma, and then Mir Hüseyin and his enigmatic treatises were introduced. The commentaries made on these treatises were included and two commentaries on which no work has been done to date have been examined. The first of these is the work belonging to Haşim bin Mikâ?il, which is in the National Library and archive number 06 Mil Yz A 8543. The other is the commentary with the archive number of İÜ Nadir Eserler Ktp TY3597. After these annotations were introduced, Sürûrî's commentary was compared with the two new works mentioned above in terms of annotation technique.
