Abstract
VIEWS OF AN XVI. CENTURY COMMENTATOR SÛDÎ-İ BOSNEVÎ IN HIS ŞERH-İ BOSTÂN REGARDING PERSIAN
The historical, social, political, religious and commercial relationship between Turks and Persians caused both languages to be influenced by each other and necessitated Turks to learn Persian and Persians to learn Turkish. Naturally, various works were written to fulfil this need. Literary commentaries are among these works and have an important place in language learning and teaching. Sûdî-i Bosnevî (d.1008/1599-1600) is one of the commentators who wrote literary commentaries. Sûdî-i Bosnevî, who wrote commentaries on Persian literature classics such as Hâfız Divanı, Gülistân and Bostân, did not only give word meanings and translations in his commentaries but also expressed his views on Persian where he deemed necessary. The views about Persian of Sûdî-i Bosnevî, who is considered as an authority in the field of commentation and who proved his command of Persian language with his works, are of great importance. In this study, Sûdî-i Bosnevî's views on Persian that appear in his last work Şerh-i Bostân are examined. These views are classified under the headings of orthographic features, morphology, views on verb roots and stems, and other views about Persian; each view is explicated under the appropriate heading.
