Abstract
A SOLITUDE COMPARISON IN LIGHT OF COMMON MOTIFS: BOŞLUKTA MAVİ AND GÜL MEVSİMİDİR
In their works, Nezihe Meriç and Füruzan, two major women writers of the Republican era, generally concentrated on the concept of "woman" and her status in society. The struggles of women to change their voices from a whisper to a scream find their echo in the works of women storytellers during this period, when patriarchal social order and masculine literary interpretation began to give way to the idea of "free woman." Nezihe Meriç and Füruzan, who released their works in a literary atmosphere in which the aforementioned male gaze began to recede, attempted to explore the inner worlds of the female characters they described with a modern understanding. In the present study, the parallels and differences between Nezihe Meriç's "Boşlukta Mavi" and Füruzan's "Gül Mevsimidir" will be highlighted, and the arrangement of particular motifs in the text and the roles of various items in the stories studied will be analyzed in light of the characters' individual predicaments.
