Abstract
AN ECOCRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SAİT FAİK ABASIYANIK’S SHORT STORIES THE DEATH OF A PETER’S FISH, POINT ON THE MAP, THE LAST BIRDS, AND SUCH A STORY
This study aims to analyze the stories of Sait Faik Abasıyanık titled Dülger Balığının Ölümü [The Death of A Peter’s Fish], Haritada Bir Nokta [A Point on the Map], Son Kuşlar [The Last Birds] and Öyle Bir Hikaye [Such A Story] in the light of ecocriticism. Ecocriticism is a school of literary criticism that helps to understand how nature and human relations are represented in literary works. In this research, ecocriticism will be used as a conceptual framework. Nature is a significant theme in Sait Faik’s works. Four stories of Sait Faik Abasıyanık will be analyzed which enable an thorough analysis of the theme nature. In the Introduction, the school of literary criticism called ecocriticism will be introduced. The mentioned stories will be examined in the light of ecocriticism in the Analysis section and the relationship between nature, human and animal will be determined in the works. In the Conclusion, the conclusions reached will be presented and the place of nature, humans and animals in Sait Faik Abasıyanık's works will be determined.
