Abstract
THE AUXILIARY VERB tüket- IN THE CONTEXT OF THE CATEGORY OF ACTIONALITY IN OLD UYGHUR
There have been many studies on verb combinations, one of the categories that have been formulated within the framework of certain rules since the first written texts of the Turkic language. These studies have recently focused on the grammarization, modality, and actionality of verb combinations. When the verb combinations in historical and modern Turkic written languages are researched, it is seen that new auxiliary verbs have emerged in different phases of the Turkic language. In this article, the meaning and derivatives of the verb tüke-, which has been witnessed with its various derivatives since the first written texts of the Turkic language, will be emphasized. The role and meaning of the auxiliary verb tüket- in the verb combination will be evaluated within the framework of the structure of verb + vowel adverb suffix + tüket-, which can be witnessed especially in the Buddhist texts of Old Uyghur Turkic. It will be discussed through which processes the verb tüket- in Old Uyghur Turkic texts turns into an auxiliary verb.
