Abstract
AN EVALUATION ON THE THEMES OF HOMESICKNESS AND TRAVEL İN ÂŞIK SÜMMÂNÎ'S POETRY
Homesickness is a common theme in Turkish folk poetry. Actually, the source of this, is the place of homesickness in the lives of the people. Poets touch upon Homesickness both individually and socially in their poems because they are the interpreters of the emotions and thoughts of the people. To understand the concept of Homesickness in the cultural memory of society, it is necessary to read about this theme in their poems. Travel is often mentioned together with homesickness, although one refers to negative feelings while the other implies positive ones. Homesickness can be the result of necessity while travel connotes a more positive voyage. Travel also has an important place in the lives of poets, including Âşık Sümmânî, who is an important representative of the tradition of âşık. Sümmânî included homesickness in his poems and travel also had an important place in his life. Homesickness essentially means "being separated or distant from home" Sometimes it expresses separation either physically or emotionally. Homesickness, which appears in both senses in the minsterlsy tradition, can be directed towards human or divine elements. In this study, the themes of homesickness and travel in Sümmânî's poetry are examined to understand both the poet and the people's emotions and thought worlds. The imagery and functions of homesickness and travel in Âşık Sümmânî's poetry are being identified.
