Abstract
A STUDY ON FOLK CULTURE ELEMENTS IN SAIT FAİK'S ADAPAZARI STORIES
Sait Faik Abasıyanık, born in Adapazarı on November 18, 1906, is one of the leading storytellers of Turkish literature of the Republican period. Adapazarı, the city where he was born and spent his childhood, has a great influence on his works. Namely, Adapazarı is a very culturally rich settlement. The reason for this is that Adapazarı is located on the migration routes that many nations have passed through since ancient times and, accordingly, many ethnic groups live together. The coexistence of people from many cultures has brought with it cultural diversity. As a matter of fact, folk culture elements can be found in almost all of Sait Faik's Adapazarı stories. Considering that 27 of the author's stories in total mention Adapazarı (and its surroundings), this is so important that it cannot be considered a coincidence. Elements of folk culture are a tool that some writers consciously use to defend a thesis. In the study, first of all, the folk culture and elements in Sait Faik's Adapazarı stories were identified, and then it was examined whether such a situation existed in his stories, and as a result of this examination, it was concluded that in Sait Faik's Adapazarı stories, folk culture elements were included in the text as a part of life, and that the author's people were included in the text. It has been seen that he gives it as it is and does not take a biased attitude. Sait Faik reports what happened as it is, does not comment. In this respect, it can be said that he acted with an aesthetic attitude in his Adapazarı stories.
