Abstract
THE CONDITION OF THE PREPOSITION TEG “LIKE” IN OLD TURKIC IN UZBEK TURKISH
The preposition of analogy teg in Old Turkish is the most common preposition of analogy among the many prepositions and suffixes used in Uzbek Turkish today. Teg is now suffixed in Uzbek Turkish. As a result of the affixation of the preposition teg, variants such as +dek, +day, +dog‘, +doq, +dayin, +dak, +daka, +daqa, +aqa, +daqangi, +aqangi have emerged. However, +dek and +day are the most common forms. Of these, the variants +aqa, +aqangi are used only in demonstrative pronouns: bunaqa, shunaqangi, unaqa, o‘shanaqangi, etc.
The word-initial vowel became eutonymized t- > d- in the more classical period. In today's Uzbek written language, suffixes are generally monosyllabic and consonant harmony is not shown in writing. Therefore, the suffix is always written with /d/.
In Old Turkish, when the preposition teg was applied to pronouns, it was used in the indicative case: bunı teg “like this”. Today, however, this preposition is used with pronouns in the nominative or accusative case: bizdek ? bizningdek. In Uzbek orthography, the +dek morpheme is always compounded.
+dek and its variants are especially commonly combined with adjective-verbs to form derived adverbial verbs: +ganday, +moqchidek, +gudek, +gunday, +ayotgandek, etc.
