Abstract
EXISTENTIALIST TRACES IN FERIT EDGÜ’S “DÖNÜŞ” STORIES
Ferit Edgü, as one of the prominent figures of the 1950s generation, has written works in various genres within the literary environment. The gloom; personas who are alienated from the world, have difficulty in clinging to life and have existential concerns observed in the works of the artists of the 1950s generation are also seen in Edgü’s works. The world of characters in Edgü’s 'Dönüş' stories, particularly in his story books 'Bozgun' (1962) and 'Bir Gemide' (1972), are people who experience existential concerns and sometimes get into dead ends in their inner worlds in the triangle of past-present-future. However, the common point of both 'Dönüş' stories is that they take place on an island. The island is considered a place of escape in both stories. On the other hand, while the island is sometimes seen as a place for the characters to take refuge and get away from society, it is sometimes a place where the characters experience existential concerns within an ordinary and monotonous life.
This study will focus on Ferit Edgü’s storytelling and will examine how existential concerns are addressed through the characters in the 'Dönüş' stories.
