Abstract
AN ECOCRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CHILDREN’S BOOK GERİ SAYIM
In this study, the book Geri Sayım, which is part of the Ortak Evimiz Dünya story set, is examined from an ecocritical perspective. Ecocriticism is an interdisciplinary approach that explores the relationship between literature and ecology, addressing environmental issues through literary texts. Children's literature plays a crucial role in fostering environmental awareness at an early age. In this context, Geri Sayım is structured around four children who, facing ecological disasters in the future, embark on a journey through time to observe the past and future states of nature. The book emphasizes that ecological destruction is not solely a consequence of large-scale industrial activities but also results from individual consumption habits. In the narrative, nature is not portrayed as a mere object dominated by humans but as an entity with intrinsic value that must be preserved. Through nature descriptions, characters' reflective processes, and the messages embedded in the plot, the text encourages young readers to engage in critical thinking. Geri Sayım is a children's literary work that aims to raise ecological awareness, critically examine the human-nature relationship, and promote a consciousness of sustainable living.
