Abstract
LEGENDARY BIRDS IN 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY MINSTREL STYLE POETRY
The minstrel style poetry tradition dates back to the 16th century. It is a literary tradition that began to form at the beginning of the century and has its roots in the ozan-baksı tradition. It was in the 17th century that this tradition established itself on solid ground and began to produce very strong representatives. The tradition of minstrel style poetry, whose peak centuries were the 17th and 19th centuries, has produced many important representatives until today.
The 18th century, which produced many minstrels, and the 19th century, which was one of the peak centuries of minstrel style literature. The century is one of the important centuries in terms of the course of the minstrel style poetry tradition. In many poems written and sung in these centuries, the names of legendary birds were mentioned and it was seen that they were used in poetry with various meanings. These birds are: Zümrüd-ü Anka, Simurg and Hümâ. Minstrels used these legendary birds and their symbolic meanings to describe certain situations in their poems. In this study, 18th and 19th. The characteristics of the legendary birds in the 19th century minstrel style poetry, the meanings of these birds and the mythological and legendary backgrounds of these birds will be examined through the poems of the minstrels.
