Abstract
REFLECTION OF MYTHOLOGY IN SCIENCE FICTION CINEMA: DUNE CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
have used cultural memory products produced for centuries. It can be said that this memory contains a lot of information about the society. This information can vary from religion to economy, politics to moral structures. It is possible to find mythology, which is considered to be one of the ancient knowledge accumulations of humanity, in different ways in the productions of cinema culture, which does not have a very old date of emergence. These mythological designs can be even more impressive and striking with the colorful creativity of science fiction universes. With science fiction universes, the shapes that technological advances will take come to mind. Due to these shapes, either developed societies or societies that will disappear are envisioned. The mythological elements that a movie is influenced by can show themselves in the design of its fictional universe. In this context, it can be said that in a movie work, various elements of mythological stories are used in all the criticisms towards the present, past or future that are fictionalized within the scope of the movie; architectural structures, events, characters (interior and exterior structures), especially created clothing, the placement of symbolic expressions on many products in the movie, dialogues between characters and the main lines of the story that will develop the fictional universe. There are many science fiction movies that have used mythological stories. One of the movies that has some of the most important examples of these fictions is the movie Dune. In this article, evaluations will be made regarding the mythological elements found in Dune.
