Abstract
AN ANALYSIS OF PEDAGOGICAL APPROACHES TO AZERI KAMANCHEH IN AZERBAIJAN’S MUSIC EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
This study aims to determine whether there are shared instructional approaches in undergraduate-level Azerbaijani kamancha education in Azerbaijan and to describe the Azerbaijani kamancha education process in terms of its theoretical and practical dimensions. The research was designed as a qualitative study employing the “case study” approach. During the research process, qualitative data collection methods, namely interviews and document analysis, were utilized. While designing the interview form, the sample questions were submitted to expert review in order to ensure content validity. Following revisions based on the experts’ evaluations, the questions were implemented in the interviews. The study group consisted of seven (7) faculty members who are responsible for Azerbaijani kamancha instruction at institutions providing undergraduate-level music education in Azerbaijan. This study is significant in that it describes the current state of Azerbaijani kamancha education—one of the bowed instruments of Turkish music—from multiple perspectives. The scope of the study is limited to Azerbaijani kamancha instruction conducted at undergraduate-level music education institutions in Azerbaijan, as well as to the faculty members who were accessible for interviews. The data obtained from interviews with faculty members were analyzed using descriptive analysis, and the resulting findings and conclusions are presented.
