Abstract
AN OVERVIEW TO THE VOCABULARY OF GAGAUZ TURKISH WITH REFERENCE TO THE SAMPLE OF THE NEWSPAPER “ANA SÖZÜ”
In this study, words currently being used in the Turkish Gagauz have been analyzed in the last five years (2012-2016) of the newspaper named “Ana Sözü”. Information about the characteristics of the indicated words are given.
When vocabularies are examined of the Gagavuz language which are closest to the Turkish language, it is seen that different words from the Turkish language have been preferred and they have been used in the same expressions and have benefited from the features of Turkish language. Despite being influenced by Slavic culture, the words that can be seen in the language of Gagauz have emerged by providing originality in the words. This situation presents ideas that the cultural continuity in the language is kept alive.
In addition to the changes seen as phonetics, verbs or words formed together with foreign words are also identified and they have derived new words by adding them to the Christianity religion where they are members and the language they use with Turkish.
The most salient feature is the appearance of masculine and feminine phenomena in the words within the Gagauz language. Gagauzians use masculine and feminine in the words to distinguish between male and female gender under the influence of Slavic language. It is mentioned together with examples in this article.
