Abstract
ELLIPTICAL CONSTRUCTIONS IN THE DEWAN OF CHAGATAI POET ATAYI
Ellipsis is the literary construction which omits some literary clauses in that language’s inherit rules to ease expression, increase its influence, and avoid unnecessary repetitions. It is of utmost importance to correctly fill the gaps of the omitted units in the surface structure especially in terms of analysing historical texts. The correct understanding of a text relies on the correct identification of its deep and elliptical construction. This study aims to identify the elliptical constructions in the lyrics by the 15th century Chagatai poet Atayi and to analyse the origins and reasons of these ellipses.
