Abstract
AHMET MİTHAT’S NARRATION OF A CONVERT FROM USA: A.R. WEBB AND İSTİBŞAR
Ahmet Mithat Efendi, one of the most important writers of Turkish literature, is also a racy man of our literature. He has a lot of novels and stories at the other hand also has a important role for establishment of journalism. He achieved to publish his journal Tercüman-ı Hakikat for many years. His works has a amazing variety that he published a lot of books for children and also books for history of religion.
His most important activity was journalism. Therefore some of his works are primarily published by his journal and than collected into a book. One of them was İstibşar published at 1310/1894. With a view, İstibşar is a different book of Ahmet Mithat but on the other hand it has some similarities with the other works of him. Ahmet Mithat tries to inform his readers about A.R. Webb, the first white Muslim of USA. Web was consul of the USA at Philipinnes and convert İslam with his family. Ahmet Mithat tries to give information about him by the news of American journals and some cases he reveals his comments about the news of American journals.
