Abstract
TURKISH THEME IN THE AZERBAIJANI SOVIET JOURNALISM (ABOUT THE CREATIVE WORK OF HONOURED JOURNALIST AZAD SHARIFOV)
The removal of the iron curtain after the death of the Soviet leader Stalin brought about a new stage in the restoration of relations with Turkey also in journalism.
Azad Sharifov’s articles about Turkey published in the “Vokrug Sveta” (“Around the World”) magazine that was very popular on an all-Union scale were of the articles, which were read with interest not only by the wide public, but also by the high-ranking members of the party and soviet bodies. These writings have also grabbed the attention of the management of the “Izvestiya” newspaper, and he has been offered to the post of special correspondent in Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan. Azad Sharifov was the first Azerbaijani journalist accredited in Turkey and working abroad as a special correspondent. After returning from Turkey, he also worked in some responsible positions, held the positions of the head of department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan and General Director of “Azerinform”.
This article presents information about Azad Sharifov’s coming to journalism and his activities in this field. Also the article places the highest value on his activities in Turkey, narrates about the his book titled “Seagulls over the Bosphorus”. At the same time, there is information about his articles revealing the inner face of the Armenian vandalism and terrorism written during his leadership of “Azerinform”.
