Abstract
SOME PRACTICES AND TRADITIONS IN RESPECT TO WEDDING CUSTOMS IN THE CONTEXT OF RITUALS IN THE TURKS OF KOSOVO
The customs practised in the birth, marriage and death, as rituals of transition which specifies an individual’s position within a society, likewise specifies the culture of that society.
In this study, we have gathered traditional practices and customs related to the weddings which were considered as important and handed down up to the present, particularly pursuant to regions populated with the Turks of Kosovo.
We have established that, the wedding which occurs as a result of many preparations and phases, includes various practices and customs depending on the region. Wedding, being known as the second transition phase and significant event, as well as, assuring the continuation of the hominid line, is an important fact for individual as well as the society. While, in Kosovo, there are preserved some of the practices, we have additionally noticed changes in some of their forms. Nonetheless, they have never faded, yet they were passed from generation to generation, up till today.
Apart from the literature scanning, the study includes the field research as well. In the process of the fieldwork, we referred to the interviewing and observation technique.
We believe that this study, in addition to being substantial for the preservation of our culture, it is also fundamental in its transfer to the generations to come.
