Abstract
A FRIENDSHIP ESTABLISHED THROUGHOUT ERZURUM BALLADS: MUZAFFER SARISÖZEN AND HÂFIZ FARUK KALELI
Muzaffer Sarısözen was founder of the “Yurttan Sesler” [Sounds of Our Homeland] in which he invited local artists who are locally famous in the area of compiling or performing of folk songs to his program in National Radio as guest performers in Ankara. Hâfız Faruk Kaleli, is well-known performer of Erzurum ballads, was invited to program of “Yurttan Sesler” by Muzaffer Sarısözen at this time. Whenever, he broadcasted, he sang ballads and presented his newly compiled folk songs to Muzaffer Sarısözen to ask his opinion and knowledge as well. Each time Hâfız Faruk Kaleli came in Ankara to visit Muzaffer Sarısözen, his repertoire was recorded at the Radio and Conservatoire by Sarısözen as well. Hence, all Erzurum folk songs sung and forgotten were compiled, evaluated, notated, recorded and archived in National Radio. Today, significant part of Erzurum folk songs in Radio repertoire was compiled by the efforts of Hâfız F. Kaleli. Hâfız Faruk Kaleli is still very much loved figure whose compilations and his own compositions such as “Yıldız”, “Pasinli Güzel”, “Yemen Türküsü”, “Billur Piyale”, “Yayla Türküsü”, “Yandı Canım Tende Ey Ruh-i Revanım Bir Su Ver”, “Ey Gönül İçmek Dilersen Cam-ı Cem”, “Erzurum Çarşı Pazar” are enjoyably listened throughout the country. Muzaffer Sarısözen’s efforts, affections, interest, guidance, knowledge must have taken Hâfız Faruk Kaleli’s achievements much further for sure. The friendship of Muzaffer Sarısözen and Hâfız Faruk Kaleli that based on recording Erzurum ballads to national repertoire and their efforts for compiling them had evaluated throughout in this paper.
