Abstract
DIVAN POETS FROM ERZURUM
Classical Turkish Literature, which started to be formed during the foundation period of the Ottoman Empire, has spread in a wide geography along with the growth of the state. The borders of the state were extended, and the literati & poets were highly respected. Thousands of poets have come to existence through the principle saying that "ingenuity comes after compliment ", and the products of a six hundred year old era have been created. In this article, through the divan poets who have grown up in Erzurum, we will try to explain the reflections of the historical process that constitutes a cultural bridge between the past and the future. The existence of Islamic literature will be examined by focusing not only on their poet identity but also on divan poet’s wisdom and mystical views. Thus, perception, space and personalities will all be melted in a pot and the events will be tried to be viewed from a wider perspective.
This article titled as “Dîvân Poets Born in Erzurum” will give information regarding the biographies of the poets who lived in this geography due to their job or whose place of birth is determined to be Erzurum. After the introduction, the poets, who functioned as a cultural bridge from 14th century to 20th century, will be tried to be discussed in alphabetical order. Certain major folk-poets called “Meydan Şairleri” – one of the groups of folk-poets using the measure of aruz- are included in this scope to boot. The biographies, divans and works of 53 poets, who succeed in having a place in divan poetry and being accepted by writers called tezkireci, will be tried to be revealed by giving poetry examples.
